FABRIC MAGIC HOMEABOUT
USPUZZLESGALLERYSTORECONTACT =============== When folks talk
about someone "weaving a story", they could be literally referring to the highly
skilled Akan people of Ghana and the world famous Kente cloth that they produce.
Known locally as nwentoma or "woven cloth", Kente cloth is made up of colorful
hand- woven design patterns that actually tell a story or convey a message. One
example is the huge 12x20 foot tikoro nko agyina ("one head does not constitute
a council") cloth that Ghana gave to the United Nations in 1956 when they became
a member. Aside from Kente cloth, there are a host of other fabrics such as
Batik, Kuba cloth, Mud cloth, Oshogbo, and Kasai velvets that all have amazing
stories to tell. Below are some of the materials used to produce these magical
“talking” fabrics.
