Our Story

Conceived over two decades ago, and evolving out of a desire to help his children learn about their history, Puzzles For Us®, the brainchild of Kevin Ikim Dunn, initially began as a one-page crossword puzzle containing assorted Black history facts and has since grown into the full-fledged educational series you see today.

Becoming increasingly frustrated at the scarcity of materials available at the time -- most of which treated Black history as nothing more than a side note -- and noticing also the reluctance of mainstream publishers to produce centerpiece works on this subject, Kevin Ikim Dunn decided to create his own word story puzzles that would highlight this history in a fun way.

As fate would have it, a principal at the local school that Mr. Dunn’s daughter attended saw one of the puzzles, was thrilled by the information it contained, and asked Mr. Dunn if he could make and distribute copies to other students for the upcoming Black History Month celebration. That was the beginning.

Years later, Puzzles For Us® has become a popular audience favorite with its exciting colorful line of engaging and entertaining family-friendly products which are enjoyed by youngsters and adults of all ages and backgrounds.

Aligned with Common Core standards and social emotional learning (SEL) initiatives, these award-winning books and puzzles improve language arts skills, stimulate critical thinking, boost self-esteem, and increases one's knowledge and appreciation of African American history.

Through innovative learning tools such as these, Puzzles For Us® is committed to providing the communities and populations we serve with quality products and services that enriches lives, inspires creativity, and that connects folks to life-enhancing information and resources in an entertaining way.
